Westham 1895 Kelly's Directory
Westham in this parish [Wyke Regis] is a suburb of Weymouth. The chapel of ease here, in connection with the parish church of Wyke Regis, is an edifice of Bath stone and red brick, opened in 1880, and seating about 190. The Rev. Sydney Lambert M.A. of Corpus Christi college, Cambridge, has been curate-in-charge here since 1891. The new church of St. Paul now (1895) in course of erection, is an edifice of Portland stone, with Bath stone dressings, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles and south chapel, and will have 400 sittings; the total estimated cost is £5,600. Here is also a Mission Hall, unsectarian, to seat about 200. The population in 1891 was 2,500.
Town Sub-Post & M.O.O., S.B., Insurance & Annuity Office - Robert Bartlett, sub-postmaster. Letters arrive from Weymouth, 8 & 12am & 3 & 8pm. Dispatched 8 & 10.15am & 1.15, 3, 6 & 8pm. The nearest telegraph office is at Weymouth.
National School, built in 1882, and since twice enlarged in 1890 & 1893 respectively, & now holding 200 children; average attendance, 150; Miss R. H. Steele, mistress
