extracted from Weymouth & Melcombe Regis
Westham, formerly in the parish of Wyke Regis, is a suburb of Weymouth, and has been added to that municipal borough. It was formed into an ecclesiastical parish in 1902 under the name of St. Paul, Weymouth. The church of St. Paul, opened in 1896 and completed in 1913 at a cost of £11,000, is an edifice of Portland stone, with Bath stone dressings, consisting of chancel, nave and aisles and a bell-cote containing 2 bells: a side chapel was erected in 1903, at a cost of £800: the church affords 700 sittings. The register dates from the year 1896. The living is a vicarage, net yearly value £187, in the gift of the Bishop of Salisbury, and held since 1906 by the Rev. John Martyn Fisher M.A. of Worcester College, Oxford. Here is also a Church Army mission hall, in connection with Holy Trinity church, and seating about 200.
